The Use And Classification Of Cemented Carbide Inserts

The most commonly used blade materials can be divided into 6 categories:
1) Non-coated carbide inserts are suitable for high-difficulty processing such as turning and milling of non-ferrous metals, welding tools, high-temperature alloys, and titanium alloys.
2) Coated carbide inserts are the most common turning and milling tools with the widest range of applications, with various PVD and CVD coatings.
3) Cermet inserts are a relatively new type of material, which has both ceramic and metal characteristics, and is widely used, mostly for semi-finishing to finishing.
4) Ceramic inserts are mainly used for processing cast iron, steel, hardened materials and superalloys.
5) Cubic boron nitride (CBN) inserts are mainly used for finishing turning of hardened steel, high-speed cutting of gray cast iron, and rough turning of chilled cast iron.
6) Polycrystalline diamond (PCD blade) is mainly used for aluminum alloys and related products, non-metallic and non-ferrous metal materials, and is not recommended for ferrous materials.
